The Ward Committee is a group of community representatives who work with the Ward Councillor to ensure that residents’ concerns, needs, and priorities are communicated to the City of Tshwane. It is your direct link between the community and the municipality.
What is a Ward Committee?
A Ward Committee is a non-executive advisory body made up of community members from Ward 56. It supports the Ward Councillor by representing residents and helping facilitate communication between the community and municipal structures.
What Does the Ward Committee Do?
- Acts as a link between residents and the municipality
- Identifies and communicates community needs and concerns
- Supports consultation on municipal plans and policies
- Encourages public participation in processes such as:
- Integrated Development Plans (IDPs)
- Municipal budgets
- Service delivery matters
- Shares important information from the municipality with residents.
What Can't the Ward Committee Do?
- Does not make binding decisions
- Cannot instruct the municipality
- Does not implement projects directly
- Has no executive or legislative authority.
The committee plays an advisory and representative role only.

Groenkloof Road Closure Announced
Groenkloof Road will be closed from 10 June 2026 to 17 June 2026. Residents, commuters and nearby businesses are advised to plan ahead, expect possible delays, and make use of alternative routes during this period. Further updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
Petition for Pedestrian Safety Launched
A petition has been launched calling for urgent safety interventions at the intersections of Roper & Lynnwood, Herold & Lynnwood, and South & Jan Shoba. Residents, students and local businesses are encouraged to sign in support of safer crossings.
Trimming Schedule Confirmed for Phase 1
The Electricity Department has confirmed that Phase 1 trimming will commence within the next two weeks, focusing on the highest-risk zones identified during inspection. Brooklyn will form part of the initial intervention cluster, with Hatfield scheduled immediately thereafter.
Residents may notice temporary lane closures during trimming operations. A detailed schedule will be shared once finalised.

Meetings and Participation
Ward Committees are required to meet at least once every three months.
In Ward 56, the committee meets monthly and participates in public community engagement meetings every quarter.
Legal Basis
Ward Committees are established under the Local Government: Municipal Structures Act, 1998 (Act 117 of 1998), which provides for community participation in municipalities that use a ward-based electoral system.
