Residents of Hatfield and Ward 56 petition the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality.
We, the undersigned, call on the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality to urgently prioritise and implement pedestrian safety improvements at key high-risk intersections within Hatfield.
Several intersections — including Roper Street & Lynnwood Road, Herold Street & Lynnwood Road, and South Street & Jan Shoba Street — have been identified as dangerous crossing points where students and residents face daily risk due to high traffic volumes and inadequate pedestrian infrastructure.
Hatfield is one of Pretoria’s busiest student districts, with thousands of pedestrians moving between residences, the University of Pretoria, and surrounding businesses. The current lack of safe crossing infrastructure has resulted in frequent near-miss incidents and growing safety concerns within the community.
